  • An anti-cancer drug may cause cancers!

This anti-cancer drug may cause cancers, is tamoxifen! Tamoxifen, an estrogen blocking drug, is prescribed to patients suffered from breast cancer and it has a 20 percent success rate in preventing further incidences of cancers. However, this report on tamoxifen is based only on observation. [1]

The study found that women who took tamoxifen for five years or more were 60 percent less likely than nonusers to develop a new estrogen-sensitive tumor in the second breast. But the study also found that the long-term tamoxifen users were possibly four times as likely than nonusers to develop a new tumor that is not estrogen-sensitive tumor in the second breast. [2]

  • A child from two biological mothers

Researchers have previously tried and failed to correct "an egg with faulty mitochondria" by adding healthy donated mitochondria into the eggs of patients wishing to have children. But these attempts resulted in birth defects - probably because mitochondria are so delicate that they are damaged when they are transplanted from one egg to another. As a result, the treatment was banned in the U.S. [2]

A group at the Oregon Health and Science University has developed a skill to transfer the DNA needed to make a baby out of monkey eggs, leaving behind the potentially diseased genes in the mitochondria. This was transplanted it into eggs emptied of DNA but containing healthy mitochondria. The technique resulted in three healthy births with no sign of any birth defects. [2]

This study demonstrated that a genetic tweak of the unfertilized eggs of macaque monkeys effectively prevented the transmission of diseases typically passed down through the maternal line! [1] Thus, this method could prevent inherited diseases passed from human mothers to their children through mutated DNA in mitochondria. Mitochondria play a basic role by producing energy for each cell, but they also contain their own genes, called mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). [1]

However, this method is actually to produce monkeys with genetic material from two mothers, an advance that could help women with some inherited diseases have healthy children but that would raise a host of safety, legal, ethical and social questions if attempted in people. [3]

  • Hypertension Linked to Thinking Problems in Middle Age

A recent research reports that people with high diastolic blood pressure were more likely to have problems with memory and thinking skills compared to people with normal diastolic readings. The study involved almost 20,000 people, age 45 and older, from across the country who participated in a stroke study but had never had a stroke or mini stroke. For every 10-point increase in the reading, the odds of a person having cognitive problems was 7% higher. [1] The research adds to growing evidence of a link between blood pressure and an early stage of dementia or even dementia itself. [3]

"One idea is that diastolic pressure is tightly tied to small blood vessel disease and perfusion pressure," George Howard, chairman of the department of biostatistics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health said. Perfusion pressure is the force by which blood spreads through vessels of the brain. "Another idea is that people with high systolic pressure tend to die. Once they are dead, they cannot be part of our study." [2]

"Association of higher diastolic blood pressure levels with cognitive impairment."

  • Marriage 'cancer survival impact'

US researchers from Indiana University analysed data on 3.8m people diagnosed with cancer between 1973 and 2004. [2] They that married people have more favorable cancer survival rates than unmarried patients.  After marriage, never-married patients had the best outcomes, followed by those who had been divorced and then widowers. [2]

Married - 63% survival after five years and 58% at 10-year mark
    Never-married - 57% and 52%
    Divorced - 52% and 46%
    Widowed - 47% and 41%
    Separated - 45% and 37%

Researchers believe the stress associated with a current marital breakup may weaken the body's immune system, making a person more likely to develop cancer. [1]  The correlation between psychological and emotional health and improved immunity is something scientists refer to as "psychoneuroimmunology." [3]

  • Women With High Testosterone Take Financial Risks

Luigi Zingales, University of Chicago, and co-workers from Northwestern University found that female MBA students with higher levels of the "male" hormone testosterone were far more likely than those with lower levels to choose finance careers such as investment banking that can be lucrative but also risky. Men and women both produce testosterone in their bodies, although men usually have much higher levels. High testosterone is linked with many traits, including aggression and a relish for risks.[1] But in women and men with similar levels of testosterone, there was no gender difference in risk aversion.

     Discussion

    Conclusion

  • Should porn stars use codom?

    Here is the news:

Los Angeles-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation filed complaints against 16 adult-film studios in California recently, accusing them of violating state workplace safety rules by failing to require porn actors to wear condoms.  [1]

The complaints, submitted along with 60 DVD copies of pornographic films as evidence, formally call on the state's Division of Occupational Safety and Health to conduct an inquiry.
Last month, this group sued Los Angeles County, accusing public health officials there of failing to enforce laws aimed at curbing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases within the adult entertainment industry. The latest complaints say the films demonstrate that they were made without performers wearing condoms, in violation of state regulations requiring workers be protected from blood-borne pathogens in the exchange of bodily fluids. [1]

"My lower body hurt so badly and at times my private area felt like it was a blazing fire. I could no longer work because I caught so many STDs and infections....."said Michelle Avanti, a former porn actress. [3] News reports that more than 2,800 sexually transmitted disease cases were diagnosed among 1,884 porn performers in Los Angeles County, many suffering multiple infections, from April 2004 to March 2008. [1]

By law, U.S. adult film actors must prove they have tested negative for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases within 30 days of going to work on a film. [2]

  • Have you cheated your husband before?

An article from Shine.yahoo.com suggests feelings of loneliness are one of the most common reasons which lead women to cheat on their spouse. The article further suggests that the husband ignores talking about more personal issues like life goals, dreams for the future with his wife, spends not enough with her, or just simply the husband has cheated before. It seems the husband carries the ball.

Finally, the article says, sometimes women can feel insecure abut themselves and will cheat in an attempt to boost their confidence and stroke their ego. Well, what do you think?
